Issey Miyake opens store in 132 years old, traditional Japanese house

This antique house, was specially transformed by Naoto Fusakawa to host Issey's Miyake collection. This type of the house, is called Machiya 町屋, which could translate into a "town house", a wooden type of building, very rare these days, especially in a decent condition.

There are two floors, with a combined area of 251 square meters of the exhibition area. The idea of an old, traditional house like this, selling modern fashion goods, creates a perfect story of how people used to live as in contrast to how they live now.

Shop's area, first floor, and second floor.

Among the items you can find in the store, there is IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE collection, which is a part of the collaboration, that begun in 2016 between these two giant names. You can see part of the collection below.

What do you think about this idea of a traditional vs modern? If you'd like to get any of the items from this store, remember to check out our Proxy Shopping Services and send us an inquiry!
